Made Ya Smile Dental uses several different types of sedative medications to help our patients during various dental treatments. The sedative we choose depends upon the patient and the procedure being done. The following are some of the sedation methods we employ at Made Ya Smile:

  • Nitrous Oxide. Often called laughing gas, nitrous oxide is an inhaled sedative that helps patients relax. Our dentists carefully control how much sedative you receive, and you may be able to drive yourself home when the procedure is finished.
  • Oral Sedation. Oral sedatives are ingested by patients prior to procedures. Oral sedation can be minimal to moderate, depending upon the dose given. Minimal oral sedation typically makes patients relaxed and a bit drowsy, while patients who take a higher dose often actually fall asleep, but can be easily wakened once the dental treatment is complete.
  • IV Sedation. IV sedation involves administering a strong sedative through the veins. IV sedation works quickly and allows our dentists to easily control the amount of sedation given. IV sedation is not a deep, general anesthesia, but is actually a form of conscious sedation. Patients remain conscious during treatment, but may be so relaxed that they fall asleep. It’s typical for patients to not have any memories of the treatment one it’s finished.

All forms of sedation help patients feel more comfortable during treatment. If you suffer from dental anxiety for whatever reason, sedation dentistry can help you feel more at ease. Talk to our team about your concerns and we’ll work with you to choose a sedation method that suits your needs. Don’t let fear or anxiety prevent you from taking care of your teeth and gums—sedation dentistry is your healthy mouth solution.
